SPML Infra builds and operates continuous water supply systems for Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and municipalities. Its 24x7 urban water supply projects in Delhi, Pune and six cities in Karnataka serve around 5 million people with clean drinking water. In Karnataka, the scope covers 1,700 km of water supply pipelines, rehabilitation and replacement of 2,50,000 house service connections, NRW reduction, AMR and non-AMR meters, a 24x7 consumer care centre, and five years of O&M across all cities. In Chennai, a consortium led by SPML Infra was awarded a Rs 3.45 billion contract by CMWSSB to convert intermittent supply into a continuous pressurised system for the Pallipatu and Thiruvanmiyur water distribution stations under the hybrid annuity model.
Smart metering
SPML Infra has deployed more than 500,000 smart water meters across India's urban water networks. Its smart metering system connects to a monitoring platform that supports automated data collection, remote monitoring and real-time analytics, helping utilities bill accurately, flag unusual consumption and reduce non-revenue water. In New Delhi, SPML ran an AMI pilot in West End, Vasant Vihar, combining smart meters, communication networks and data management systems for two-way communication between the utility and consumers.
Non-revenue water reduction
NRW reduction is built into SPML's distribution contracts. Under the Chennai project, the target is to bring non-revenue water below 20 per cent and sustain or further reduce it through the contract period.
Water source development and transmission
SPML develops raw water intake, treatment and transmission systems to augment city supply. For Indore under AMRUT 2.0, the scope includes a 1,650 MLD raw water intake with a pumping station, a 400 MLD water treatment plant, booster pumping stations, pumping mains and a 22-km transmission line. Its transmission work also includes a 2,400 mm pipeline under the Saurashtra-Kutch Water Grid in Gujarat and a 3,100 mm bulk water supply pipeline in Delhi.
Asset management
SPML developed SPMLAQUA, a software application used for GIS mapping, revenue management, system O&M, customer complaints and asset management. In Delhi's Mehrauli and Vasant Vihar, the work includes rehabilitating the distribution network and expanding underground reservoir capacity from 4.3 million litres to 18.3 million litres.
Water utility management
SPML takes on long-term operation of water utilities after construction. The Mehrauli and Vasant Vihar O&M contract was awarded by Delhi Jal Board to MVV Water Utility, a consortium of SPML Infra, TAHAL Group and Hagihon Jerusalem Water and Wastewater Works, and covers metering, billing and operations and maintenance for 10 years. The Chennai project carries 15 years of O&M after commissioning.
Complaint redressal
SPML also built an Android app that lets consumers register complaints, track their status, request water tankers and follow project progress. Its Delhi and Karnataka projects include a 24x7 consumer care centre.
